Layer of Varnish Before Cetol ??

Hi, I'm in the progress of re painting the rub strake on my boat. Teak with Cetol - I would like to stick with Cetol Marine as the maintenance while sailing is easy.

Now a guy advised to put first a light varnish on the sanded wood. It suppose will protect the wood better and saves a lot of Cetol. He did not mentioned which kind of Varnish but anyhow: Makes that any sense? Thanks.

Re: Layer of Varnish before Cetol??

Cetol stick very well to bare wood and 4 or 5 coats seems to me enough for long term maintenance, last time i do my hand rails i put a couple of coats of epifanes varnish in top of Cetol and well after 1 year of tropical weather still looking good.

Sounds crazy to me. 2 coats cetol light and 3 coats cetol clear looked great for me and only required touch up for 4 years.

The first sign of spring! A brightwork question!

A shame this one's only about Cetol. Hard to get excited about that stuff.

Very. I can't wait for the weather to finally change here so I can get back on my varnish/urethane coating system work...
