Lady J has an Uh oh...

The K-40, Lady J, came into the yard for a fresher and followup prior to the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival. We dressed her up, redid a couple of leaky seams and launched her.

Unfortunately, on the way to a fun weekend at Roche Harbor in the San Juans, she pulled her forestay tang out of the stemhead under sail at seven knots. Luckily, with the quick reaction of Don and Jean his wife, the owners, the rig stayed up and they got her back to us about seven in the evening on Saturday.

Here are some pics of the damage.

We will begin to effect repairs today. Apparently, the forestay tang was held in with a lag screw that somebody inserted sometime in her past, causing it to pull out. That won't be the case when I'm done with her. Sadly, she won't make the show this year.

More to follow....
