Re: Keel sump repair

Still called Airstream. She is in the Caribbean now. Sailed almost around the world. Coming through the Canal at some point I believe. That boat has served them well.

Re: Keel sump repair

Some pics to hold you off.
I did another 12 hour shift today and minaret jammed himself into the nether regions of Appa today for some glassing of the bulkhead. Poor guy. Him and his helper are bushed.

Re: Keel sump repair

This ought to give an idea of what the temporary faux keel bolts are for. They are cut to the exact length of the actual bolts minus one thread. Also you can see the thickness of the new interior laminate. 7/16 plus 1/2' G10 means we added 15/16" to the thickness of the bottom of the keel sump. As you can see, this is the maximum amount of build up possible without replacing the keel bolts with longer ones.

Re: Keel sump repair

Fwd G10 plate cut, fit, and bonded in. It needed a curve clamped into it, so I had to get creative. 1 1/4" bolts aren't cheap, so I got two to provide the majority of the clamping pressure (G10 doesn't bend easy). The rest are 1 1/4" tube with a release, and a bar clamp with the tit ground off run through it in two parts. Worked a treat! Those massive cracks really sucked up a lot of epoxy. Only 1/2" or so of original material left in there.
