Other priorities took over... and I lost my "selling season" window a long time ago... But I now am under the weather gun... It's gunna get downright no fun to be doing outside resin work soon...

The GCP guys are super great... some resin and tint on the way to get some base red out... Meanwhile, I made up some small test samples mixing in some of the previous wrong color yellow gels with the "too red GCP" and tinting them... Some of the sanded out spots look like a great match, but I'm getting an "orange halo" on the catalyzed test spots... I'm assuming the majority is due to still too much of the "over red" blending on the yellow substrate...

The centers look good, blending edges = orange halo... just too much red still, or red shift catalyzing? It's awful tough to mix perfectly in 1 oz test batches... the 50/50 acetone/MEK is easy, but MEKP and wax are tough at such a small batch... Could I have too much/little of these?
BTW, this was one hot test batch with extra tints at the ready, so 4 spots were with one mix ratio, tint adjusted 4 times... Not like I reproduced the halo with 4 batches

I'll try again with a different MEKP (I have 3 different), maybe the first MEKP that was part of the blues initial issue... skip the wax and PVA 'em...

After this... I'm taking votes for the next task

Why? I do this all the time. Do you think I can sell a full paint job every time a colored hull comes in with a chip? Only one way to get good enough to pull off those tricky matches. Practice. I commend Happy for his effort, and I doubt he's really got all that much time and effort into it. Lots of people would just say close is good enough and leave a big egg yolk on the side of that sucker. Perfection is difficult to achieve, but worth striving for. Clearly it's not for everyone.

For me, I'd eat the extra hours and bill it pretty close to a regular match. People get upset if you bill more than three hours for a match, they just don't understand. It's part of the business. One of the more challenging parts too.

I saw a free hull mold advertised the other day... it would be perfect!


Dangitall... pictures of the orange halo are harder to capture than the green flash! Here's a couple that don't do it justice... You probably can't even see it on the puter screen... The tape is about 1", and there just so the camera can focus... impossible without... not polished out, but 320'd...

I'm going to take and edit more...

No... camera glare/reflection... the gel bump is like 50+ mil proud... still plenty of gel below.... 30 pics, and that was the least crappy... Dang cameras wont focus on the hull...

I'll get a good pic if it kills me... What's frightening or funny... is under some of the different lights and flash combos, the hull turns orange like the halo I'm trying to get rid of and the test spots turn shocking bright yellow... not even close to matching!

I'm still on the fence of interesting fun learning curve vs maddeningly frustrating... BUT I'M LOSING MY BALANCE!

Doesn't surprise me. I've seen some that look great in the shade and horrible in the sun, and vice versa. It can be very finicky.
