Re: is this bad?

Is it just me or do the halyards look kind of eaten up in the first picture?

Re: is this bad?

I would suggest that before you buy this boat you have a rigger inspect the mast. It may well be worth the cost. Is that tape or bog covering up holes in the mast?

Re: is this bad?

maybe I'm not seeing it right but that mast looks painted to me. The scratches are silver and the rest is white...? At any rate if not real deep wouldn't worry about it.

Re: is this bad?

I'm not sure what's behind the tape, it was too high up the mast for me to check.
The boat has been neglected and been sitting on the hard for at least 2 years, so there are plenty of potential trouble elsewhere on the boat (batteries are dead so can't check if the electrical system is working, the engine would need to be prepared before attempting to start it, sails are old, running rigging need replacement, etc, etc..).
I'm trying to get a fair assessment of the major expenses before deciding if it's worth making an offer (which will be subject to a survey and sea trial)

Yes, looks painted to me, too.

And it'll only cost you an arm, leg and first born...

I've used the aluminum tape to cover out of use screw holes. It lasts indefinitely and can be obtained from most hardware stores. Hard to differentiate the tape from the anodized mast. Blends right in.
