Insulating the Boat

Has anyone here augmented the insulation on their air-conditioned boats with this product?

Unless I'm waaaaay off, $10-15 is plenty for a 36' Sloop. I was thinking of adding the product as a radiant barrier to the deck paint. Thoughts?

No one with any facts, experience or opinion regarding this product or the proposed application. Well, I guess it's the no opinion part that is scary.

I would be very interested if it works as advertised.

I am troubled, however, by the lack of rigorous testing data on their web site (they refer to some tests in the 1990s, not even clear it is their product). This stuff should be easy to test, and if it worked, the world would be all over it.

So I am skeptical.

I remember reading about this 5? years ago and the catch is that it only works in limited circumstances, for specific heat transfers. I'd suggest asking the maker how that would/not apply tp a boat, and radiant versus conductive versus convective or other heat transfer.

Most of my heat seems to come from the glass....

I did a little research at one point. This stuff was actually used in both the shuttle and the International Space Station. If I can dig it up, I'll post it here.

As I understand it, their product is primarily a radiant barrier (reflects thermal energy). However when used in conjunction with other forms of insulation it is quite effective.
