Instrument and Panel Bedding

So what is the preferred merhod of sealing things light instrument displays and MFD's etc, into the dash. This would be in the cockpit under the bimini but still outdoors. The units all come with little foam gaskets. Does one trust these to seal adequately or add a thin layer of silicone to each side of the gasket or is the a butyl tape application?

Re: Instrument and Panel Bedding

Foam gaskets are fine, this summer we remove some Raytheon wind and speed repeaters in the cockpit of a 38 aluminium boat to prepare for painting, as far i know the owner say they are 5 years stick it to the cockpit walls with no wáter ingress or leaks , a fine coat of Boatlife clear silicone dont hurt , avoid use stuff like 3m 5200 or the 4000 or sika , 290 series , no no. clear silicone seal great and its easy to clean after years,,,
