Inflatable repair/modifications

Question - I have a 10' hard bottom Alliance inflatable, very similar to your standard Avon or WM dinghy. I want to add some D rings to the side tubes and need to know the best adhesive to use and what material is best to bond to the tube. Is there a special adhesive? I there a source for repair/modification type material online?

Thanks

There is a two part contact cement that you can buy at west marine for about $45. and it works well. I have used it and regular contact cement and have not noticed a difference in the bond. The two part has a UV protector that contact cement does not other than that they have worked about the same for me.

I can't say enough good things about SC2000 2 part conveyer belt glue.
It also has much better shelf life than the WM stuff.

There are two versions of the 2-part at WM, one for PVC and one for Hypalon. Your Alliance is Hypalon, so you want to make sure you get the correct one. You can buy D-rings already attached to Hypalon patches ready for attachment. Defender carries them, and probably other dinghy repair places closer to you (Newport?).

Since you have a hypalon boat, you ought to look at NRS (Northwest River Supplies). Google or Yahoo them. They are a large builder and distributor of whitewater river running rafts and rafting supplies. Adhesives, D-rings, tools, raft fabric, books, etc. I've been buying rafting gear from them since the 70's. Good folks. Get their catalog; it may open up a whole other dimension in your life.
