I'm baaack! A Morgan OI 416 question

Our new to us M416 OI has a very deep shelf along the stern just above the bed. We have mofiifed the athwartship bed to a centerline and short of wearing a helmet to bed we'd like to know if that shelf is structural so that perhaps we can shave a foot or so off of it. Any thoughts? Thanks

Sleep with your feet toward the shelf at anchor; athwartships in a seaway, with your heads on the uphill side.

Sounds good but the head of the bed is astern and the foot is much narrower to accomodate walkaround space in the cabin so we can't do as you suggest. It's not a true "centerline queen."

I had the same problem! My girlfriend at the time hit her head all the time. ( insert joke here!) she called and spoke to Charlie Morgan and per her, he said that it was ok to remove the shelf.

I renovated the aft cabin on my Classic and took quite a substantial section out. Fill your boots.
