Ideas for Fixing / Modifying Saloon Table

We have a saloon table on our Beneteau that causes no end of problem for us. The table is supported by two legs made of aluminium which fit into metal sleeves for want of a better word top and bottom. There are two heights of legs. They constantly jam in especially when the short legs are used for the saloon berth to be utilised after the weight of a couple of folk sleeping on them.

The only option we have found so far for changing the legs is hard bashing with a mallet and a thick reader digest tome to protect the legs and table top as best we can. Tried lanoline, grease etc and filing the legs to a less fitting taper. All to no avail.

Has anyone else had these issues? If so do you have a fix?

Or maybe we need to change the whole support system and if so has anyone got any good ideas. Preferably the easier and more cost effective the better.

Thanks in advance, Clare

Have you tried asking beneteau for advice? There may be a mod available

If its a tapered fit then not much you can do except maybe put a sleeve (or a block of wood) inside the larger diameter pieces that will stop the legs from going in so far that the taper jams. Whatever you use though will have to be a fairly precise fit so the table doesn't slop around.

Good Idea Talbot...Have tried the local dealers and they suggested lanolin grease but it didn't work as it is about the sheer force of two people sleeping on top and forcing the legs in hard. But might be worth emailing Beneteau direct in France :-)

And yes Deep your right the legs are tapered slightly which means a good fit but if we put a block in it would make it unstable currently they drop into each sleeve top and bottom by about inch and a half from memory.

Re modifying was wondering if any one has any suggestions on how there table is raised up and down. And if I could retro fit any such system?

Thanks for your help :-)
