Idea for new faucets setup
My galley sink is a mess. The faucet is very loose and about ready to pull out, the salt water spigets won't turn. Getting to the bottom of the faucet to fix the problem is pretty much impossible without removing the sinks and I'm very doubtful I could get to the screws holding the sinks up.
I had an idea and I would like your opinions. I can get the faucet out by destroying it. I would then mount a new faucet and salt water spigiet to a board and screw the board down over all the holes. I would also get longer water hoses to connect to the faucets.
If I bevel the edges and use good brass screws it should even look nice.
Opinions?

Haha I have the same problem and was thinking the same thing. I say go for it. If the cover up looks good, go for it.

The nice part of raising the faucet and surround is that no water can collect there. Really makes keeping it clean easier.

Re: Idea for new faucets setup
I like it. I did a similar job, but I did have some access to the hoses. I cut the hoses and installed 1/2" NPT to barb adapters. Now I can screw in a "normal" faucet supply hose available at any home supply store. This allows me to use any standard faucet.
Make sure your new base is removable for future repairs/replacements, and you'll never worry about this job again!
You'll also have more choices if you go with standard-dimension holes, rather than that faucet with just one center hole.

Sounds like a good solution but use something other than wood.

Yeah, really . . . . I'd use some starboard that is fairly thick (heck, you can even use a router to bevel the edges . . use an ogee or something like that) . . . thread the starboard or just use a big toggle to hold it in place and that'll make it easy to remove for "the next time" (if there is one) . . .

Re: Idea for new faucets setup
I like the starboard etc idea. Consider a lever style faucet with a high arch to the spigot... easier to work under and water saving single lever instead of two knobs.

A caution would be, insure water pressure is adequate for the faucet.

Have you had a problem with single levers and pressure?

That's basically what I did.
But also there's a special tool you can get at the plumbers pro store that's like a weird slip wrench on an extension that's designed for the job.

Re: Idea for new faucets setup
I am also faced with a similar issue. I do not prefer single lever faucets for one reason alone. Many of us use those without concern that we activate cold only. the single lever only has to be off center a small amount to use some hot water which is a precious liquid. I also prefer sinks that have mounting holes for the faucet in the sink flange. So for my remodel where I am replacing the sink for a larger one, I will go with the above preferences. The starbord idea seems like a good one. It could replace the entire counter top.

Re: Idea for new faucets setup
Yeah, that weird wrench is called a 'basin wrench'. HD, Lowe's, etc. 12 bucks.

Re: Idea for new faucets setup
King Starboard would look horrible after a short time! A small strip of Corian would look a lot better forever.
