Hypalon dinghy repair question

I need to replace the bow tow point on an older Avon dinghy and cannot find any information on how to remove the old attachment from the tube. Any suggestions?

Also, I plan on using G-flex adhesive to attach the new tow point. Anyone have experience using G-flex to attach to Hypalon?

Re: Hypalon dinghy repair question

sparty,

No experience with G-Flex. We used SC2000 for our hypalon dinghies, and it worked well both above and below the waterline. You can probably locate some, it is used as conveyor belt adhesive in the food and mining industries.

Guy, above, is correct, the heat gun should soften the old [probably Bostik] glue. However, it does not work on SC2000.

My buddy turned me on to 5200 as a glue for hypalon. Works great for sail repair too.

Re: Hypalon dinghy repair question

Thruska,
I have looked online for reasons not to use 5200 and found nothing. I have used it with great results. What is the problem?

Re: Hypalon dinghy repair question

We've used 5200 for a good patch on our hypalon dinghy and its still holding well after two years. It just takes 48hrs to set! Also used on our sails for patches ... and it stays there!
