Hull painting with "extras"

Hello everyone, since this forum has been incredibly ressourcefull already I thought I will have other people join in with wrecking my brains about this:
So we finally are nearing in on finishing up our expedition Catamaran "SeaNOMAD" and would like to get the name of the NGO we are sailing for "Project Manaia" on the side of the boat.
The obvious choice would be a vinyl to do the job - unfortunately no way of getting them in the area. The other idea was setting up a projector, outlining with pencil and then painting with a nice brush - seems impossible to organize a projector in this part of Thailand though... So now I am slowly running low on creative ideas... Any takers for the challenge?
Would be happy for any advice...

Not sure how big it needs to be, but maybe you could print each letter instead of using a projector?
Then trace them, or make cut-outs (sorry, don't know the English word for that).

We are thinking about more or less 80cm high letters, little bigger or smaller wouldn't matter at all, but so far we couldn't find the right print shop for the job. Backup plan at the moment is to buy a cheap printer and print and stick together and make the stencils ourselves.... but still brainstorming...

Have the vinyl letters made in the US and shipped to you.

There are a ton of vinyl sign shops in Australia, a lot closer to you.

Boat US does boat lettering. I'm not sure they do anything that big but easy to find out.

Re: Hull painting with "extras"

hire a local artist to outline what you want on the boat and fill in the outline.

Re: Hull painting with "extras"

Make a paper pattern draw what you want, us a pounce wheel (small wheel with spikes that punches hole in the paper)out line it, tape to the hull, fill a sock with contrasting chalk pat on the paper WALA paint by numbers Keep the bottom or top of pounce pattern tapped until your happy with the outline

Re: Hull painting with "extras"

do the artwork on the computer, lots of programs to help make it nice, then cut small portions of it and print each on std typing paper, then you can cut, trace etc to make the entire set of stencils to do the entire name, trace it with pencil on the hull and paint, once you stand back a couple feet it looks great. you can see my artwork here

I did my art work myself with many revision on the computer until I liked it, and then freehanded with edge guides, and measured intersection points on the final pencil line before I finished with paint.

microsoft paint works fine, learn how to select, cut and paste in it, you can also insert images from other stuff, find something you like, select, ctrl c, move to paint and ctrl v (copy and insert) get used all the time on my computer.

Call Craig at Precision Marine in Phuket. He will know where it can be made in vinyl.

I believe "SeaNomad" is the expedition vessel for the NGO Mergui Archipelago Marine Research Group based in Phuket, Thailand.

I guess they really want to be visible with an 80cm name down the side.Good luck guys, I wish I could join you.

Re: Hull painting with "extras"

I got my last vinyl lettering off Ebay. Limited size though... I think 8" high. I think it cost less than $10
