How to dissassemble a Norsemen fitting?

I'm trying to remove a Norsemen fitting from a stay. I have the parts unscrewed from each other, but I can't get the cone out. There must be some trick to it?????

Shove the wire through the top part of the fitting and unravel the wire.

That's what won't budge. I have screwed the base on lightly and hammered it down to push the upper portion up the wire, but it doesn't budge. Tried my weak butane torch, still no joy.

G'day mate. I have had occasional success (not specifically with a Norseman) pouring or soaking boiling hot water over 2 different bits of stainless steel fused together. Cheers.

Might help us help you if you tell us what you ultimately would like to accomplish. Norseman fittings are not really meant to be taken apart and reassembled. Even if you were successful in removing the cone, it would be iffy if you could get the bent strands of your rigging through the top retainer. I would be most reluctant to trust rigging that had been reassembled after being straightened.

Try clamping the wire close to the fitting and twisting the fitting in the direction of the lay.

I'm removing the current fitting and replacing it with a different end - still a Norsemen. This is converting an inner stay from removable to a turnbuckle for a furler. I could cut off the current Norsemen. It would put me a little tight on the stay length.

Gave up and cut it off. Not sure how I see that these Norsemen fittings are all that re-useable. I'll hammer out the wire and core from the top when I get a chance.

Paul. the new end should screw onto the old fitting if they are for the same size wire. to reuse if you cut it you'll need a new cone.

Yes it does.

Also looks like it might have been assembled with 5200, hence the difficulty in removing the wire.

Re: How to dissassemble a Norsemen fitting?

It is Norsemen. I have to change the fitting because the original goes to an eye and the new one is a stud. The sexuality of the fittings are different for the two.
It is definitely a white goop inside - don't know if it is the evil 5200 or not. I'll ask some other owners.

Re: How to dissassemble a Norsemen fitting?

So I figured this was a Norsemen fitting because all the others I can see on the rig are Norsemen. But looking at this more carefully I think you guys are right and this one is a Staylok.
