How often do you haul out your boat?

How often do you haul out? I got to thinking about this from a bottompaint thread and it got me thinking as haul frequency plays a part in how often the needs hauling out.

Re: How often do you haul out your boat?

Two to three years between hauls here. Can push to four with LOTS of scrubbing.

Re: How often do you haul out your boat?

I'm on year 3 and will haul out in a couple of months. That's with two coats on the bottom and 3-4 coats on the waterline and leading edges. Barnacles are ferocious on the river so there is also a diver going down once a month to clean.

Rich

Edit: We have much warmer water than you which makes the problem worse. Water temp in the marina during the summer is around 90 F.

Re: How often do you haul out your boat?

I voted for 5 years as my answer would have been when needed. Hard to put a time frame on haul outs, I see a little growth on the notton, over the side with a carpet scrubber, lust a piece of short nap carpet folded over to make a glove.
Takes 15-20 minutes to scrub, that way it won't get ahead of you and you don't have to scrub hard,,

Re: How often do you haul out your boat?

We cruise several thousand miles so there is no paint left, and like to inspect and maintain it all, (through hulls, rudder, prop, etc). Every year for us.

Re: How often do you haul out your boat?

I selected once a year for winter storage, but you neglected to allow for a selection of dry sailors. Previous boat was hauled after every use.

No Barnys in Key West (no fresh water) just soft growth, scrub it once a month, and good to go!

Re: How often do you haul out your boat?

I haul after every cruise, simply because I leave the boat for months and would rather leave it on the hard. Often, that's twice a year. After my last haul, I didn't even power wash the bottom - just blocked it.

Re: How often do you haul out your boat?

Every year, as I've got my own tide grid.
A quick slosh with the pressure washer and slap on another coat of VC17M, zincs and wait for the tide.

Re: How often do you haul out your boat?

I'll dive about and clean up once a year or more, but I range from two to four years for a bottom paint job. We used to careen at a steep sandy beach in North Florida with a six foot tidal range, but we usually pay for the labor now. We've been using Trinidad 75 and cruising from Maine to the Bahamas seasonally.

170+ views and only 22 votes at this posting, what's up with that?

I posted this really just to move back up to recent threads to maybe get more votes.

Re: How often do you haul out your boat?

Cruising in the Sea of Cortez (very warm water), once a year. Tried once to go two years, learned a big lesson when I was then cleaning the bottom every two weeks!

Re: How often do you haul out your boat?

Our boat comes out of the water when the need arises, if we're at sea and something hits the boat, someone will dive over the side and check it out next time we are at anchor, just to make sure nothing major has happened we also haul it out the next time we're in a port. It just isn't that expensive to check on the odd chance there is damage. It's amazing the amount of damage a sunfish can cause.
