How many Gallons (English / Imperial!) do I have?

Maths has never been my strong point

How many Gallons (English / Imperial!) do I have in my fuel tanks? (Litres as well would save me later finding the Calculator ).

I seem to recall around 26 Gallons - but I forget and just found the attached sketch that the previous owner drew to order new tanks (I think dimensions are in Milimetres - it's only a 30' boat!)

74385000 mm^3 for the triangular prism on bottom
or 129.717 L
or 34.26 gals

approx 120 litres or 30 US gallons

The end section is approx. 1345 cm2 x 87 cm long = 117015 cm3 or 117.015 litres. Normally I'm not this accurate on my calcs!

Yeah, fixed the prob and it looks like ~32 US gal in each. Hmmm..... Maybe Im wrong, but thats what Im getting.

Assuming the width and length is the same for both tanks, I got 242 litres or 53.25 Imp gallons total. Easier to imagine flipping one tank over and mating it to the other so simple WxLxD (405+120)*870*530/1,000,000 = litres.

So that's about 26 imperial gallons in each (31 US and 117 Litres in each).....+ / - a bit of rounding.

I can't see how the dimensions of the tank can help us here, surely they are just a red herring.

How many gallons did you put into the tanks and how many gallons have you used.

Surely the number of gallons you have in your tanks will be difference between what you put in and what you have taken out.

BTW, this method of determining the quantity in your tanks works just the same if you litres or those Yankee gallons.

They are full, apart from the Starboard tank - which is an inch down....I call that a decimal point

BTW I did try the calcs myself (wish I had thought of fitting them together into a square, cos' the Triangle stuff defeated me )......I came up with somewhere between 3 foot and 47 kilos

As another mathamatical thicko, Why not empty them via a container of known size? Take the opportunity to clean them out too.

Don't forget to add the capacity of the hoses, water heater, accumulator and so forth into your "capacity". All this adds up, especially if you have several fixture and hoses running allover the boat.
