Hose Failures?

For academic purposes, I thought it it would be interesting to hear about your experiences with hose failures including the type of hose, the nature of the installation, and what circumstances you believe lead to the failure.

While watering my garden the other day,
the hose kinked and then sprang a leak...

Hoses on the engine get hard and crack. The accordion hose on bilge pumps get holes in the creases. The clear with thread hose gets hardened from chlorine after a long while. Fuel hose gets hard over time. The key is to pay attention to the hoses if they are getting stiff replace them right away. I like to use hydraulic hose with JIC fittings for my fuel.

Previous owner used water hose as diesel supply and return line. They cracked like a stick when I touched them. They became very hard, shrinked and where sweating diesel.
