Re: Hey can I have some privacy please!!!

Just tell everyone to "look away".

I have owned several smallish (under 30 foot) boats, and it has always been my practice to remove the head door, vee berth door, and any other unnecessary doors below. They are heavy, cumbersome, and a hazard.

Aside from that, I discouraged anyone from using the head. Boys could go over the side. Ladies could wait till we swim. Number 2 can be done ashore, thank you very much.

At the insistence of the ladies who sailed with me, I made a simple privacy curtain out of some red fabric and elastic.

However, the red curtain spent more time as a cape (2 young kids) or other imaginary devices than it ever did providing privacy to the head.

Oddly enough, I found it easy to never need to use the head aboard. An urge in that regard while at anchor was enough to get me to row my little dinghy ashore.

On the super rare occasion that I needed to go number 2 on the boat, I would send everyone off the boat, into the dinghy, for the duration. Although the privacy curtain might hide me from their eyes, there would be no protecting their ears and/or noses.

The reality is, you may call it a sailboat, but it is actually just a floating toilet.

As you can well imagine, I sail mostly alone now, so privacy is no longer an issue.

Re: Hey can I have some privacy please!!!

If only that was my only marine problem. But surely a curtain is the simple way out, or build a more solid partition with a folding door. Or just hold on!
(and how the hell did that photo get taken outside Australia's parliament house?! Check out: Pauline Hansen, burka, parliament. Our most disgusting MP.)

Privacy is for visual details I assume, noise is a whole other subject.

It's a bit late to ask for advice after the fact... my guess is that no one would've suggested to put the throne in such a prominent place.
But you said there was no other spot...

Re: Hey can I have some privacy please!!!

The problem of a toilet on a small vessel is not just visual but odour and sound.

Mine is a bigger yacht so my toilet/shower has a separate cubicle but with a high volume, noisy extractor fan.

Hopefully that will solve the problem.

I'd leave it just the way it is, honestly. Maybe put a coat hook on the mast.
