It would be the best place, BUT! Only problem with it mounted there is the headsail tacking past it and getting caught or wearing on it.

In addition to the flogging it could take from an unsheeted headsail, it would not work for those who store their whisker pole on a mast mount.

Length is 53" to match the adjacent solar panels. Width is about 24".
I used flexible house type 3/8" diameter plastic water tubing and fittings.
I insulated them with foam covering and ran them inside the SS frame.

Have not had any trouble with the sail passing by the scanner at all, This was a big concern before I installed it. I would say I see no wear on sail or scanner, because of the round shape it glides by with out a hitch . It has flogged it a few times, but that has been rare- so far its working fine. Ive sailed about 2000NM with this set up last year. I am careful /watchful with it because of the potential for damage.

I Bought the Scanner in America & Shipped it to France planning on putting it up higher at the spreader, but found that the unit was too big!
SOO I had to make it work at least temporally. Its worked so well _so far_ that I have not even considered changing where it would be mounted

I believe you have found the answer to my question about placing the scanner, Ram

(I like your boat Ram BTW. I've skippered an Athena 38 quite a few times.
She feels substantial and very stable.
I topped 21 knots on one occasion delivering a new one from France.
It was not intended. A squall hit us out of nowhere. Scarry!
With a suitable wave we could have pitch-poled.)

Alan I have a babystay so the headsail is not going to foul but I may add a simple hoop or two to take care of it.

But I do have my whisker pole to think about Raven.
I may have to put a stopper on the track so the carriage cannot go up to the radar mount.

I'll have a look in the daylight tomorrow to see how it can be done.
I have an idea but will wait till it is complete before I say anything. I've been known to be too enthusiastic at times.

Also I need to reread all these articles. I think it said somewhere that a wet headsail would block the view.

In this case the answer is to furl the genoa when there is a lot of spray around???
