Heater Fuel Pump, or Not

Looking at installing a Sigmar diesel cabin heater on our 27 ft sailboat. Not so much room for a fuel tank so I was considering going with the fuel pump setup instead. I am a bit concerned with the electric draw. Has anyone here gone this route? Do these pumps cutout when the 3 lb pressure is reached? Colin...

Re: Heater fuel pump, or not

Hi Colin,
Dickinson makes a pump that cuts out at the proper pressure. I pulled one out and built a day tank for the new heater installation. The electrical draw seemed minor, but the noise (a clicking sound) was an issue for us.

Re: Heater fuel pump, or not

I've got a little day tank. Holds ~4 gallons and we burn ~1 gallon a day when it's really cold. I'm actually sitting next to it right now so it will burn out. Hopefully shouldn't need it anymore this season:

Rebel Heart - Sailing, cruising, liveaboard blog and website - Eric's Blog - a couple steps closer with the diesel heater gravity*tank

There are people who've done some much more intricate setups turning them into modified fuel polishers, or routing the return diesel from the engine to fill up the tank.

Our tank is filled via a deck fill. I just went simple.
