I hate off-white formica. It is ugly, makes the
boat look dated and my
boat is covered in it.
So.... what to do?
Specifically, what to do in the heads where the formica is everywhere?
I have spoken at length with a local granite counter top company and they can make me granite counter tops for the heads and
galley at a reasonable rate given the small size of the pieces I will need. These would be relatively thin and while heavy they would not be crazy heavy. I planned to basically glue them down over the existing formica covered
plywood.
But that leaves the large formica covered wall areas in the heads.
I could
paint it I guess....? Anyone done that with good results? Anyone have photos?
I also read a while back in a magazine about a boat
refit that used 2" square "tiles" made of a colored
lexan or other semi-clear polycarbonate material to achieve a very nice tiled look without the weight of ceramic or such. These were fixed down with 5200 I believe.
Anyone tried that? Any ideas on where such a material could be sourced?
Thanks!
Terry
