hatch gasket material

Hi Folks. I'm looking to get the correct replacement gasket material for both the side portlights and the hatches on our new-to-us steel cutter. I know they are all aluminum Bomar products I believe, probably all about 1990 vintage. No model numbers of any kind on them anywhere that I can find. below are a couple of pics.

I have seen some gasket material listed in defender and a few other places, but there seem to be many sizes. I'm not at the boat these days so I can't measure the dang sections (they are all compressed beyond belief anyway - but it was dumb not to have measured them when I took these pics).


Can anyone identify what seal section these hatches and portlights require, and perhaps suggest a good source?

The half inch round fits my Bomar hatches well, although I notice that Defender lists them as 9/16" for the Bomar hatches. I suspect that either would be suitable.

The actual bomar seal has a tongue that fits into a grove in the hatch, I just ordered it from jamestown

Thanks - I jsut went on the JD site and couldn't see anything with a tongue on it. Would you mind giving me the part number?

I recently replaced the early '80's vintage Bomar hatch gaskets on my boat with a round gasket material sourced from West Marine (and better priced than Defender!). This was the Bomar OEM replacement part.

BOMAR Hatch/Port Gasket, 1/2" at West Marine



Contrary to the poster above, there was no tongue and/or groove on my hatches. Simply a channel that receives the pre-glued surface of the gasket.

Yikes! pricey stuff! I suppose that after a long cold night watch I'd pay just about any price to make sure I had a dry bunk.
