Good yards in Miami

Since IRMA everybody in Middle Keys is jammed. Am interested in people's experience with yards in Miami or Lauderdale. Thanks in advance.

Re: Good yards in Miami

I just spent 29 days at Playboy in Dania just south of Ft. Lauderdale. Same good service I received the year before and the prices haven't changed.

One other thing is they don't want badly damaged boats from Irma in their yard. They will ask for pictures.

I will second the Playboy Marine suggestion. I used them once, and they were great. An extensive list of contractors, decent rates, free showers, electric, water, scaffolding, and it is a DIY yard, so you can do work yourself as well. No live aboards though, but there are hotels and such not far away.

Access is easy, there are no bridges to contend with. Located on the Dania canal cutoff just north of Miami.

We also had a good experience with Playboy Marine. You probably already know this, but just in case ... they do demand a COI before they lift your boat. I suspect that this is nearly universal now in the USA.

Playboy in the Dania cutoff canal. You will need proof of insurance from your insurer.

First Performance Marina in Ft. Lauderdale has always done a great job for me.

Mine is at Playboy again now. All the comments are accurate. PlUs Leandro at PatagniA Services works out of there. Great work and fair treatment from him.

Norseman on the Miami River is tops. But it is not a do it yourself yard. They do all the work and are total pros. I've been using them for years.

Re: Good yards in Miami

I have been using Hurricane Cove Marina on the Miami River for the past 12 years with good experience. I do some of my own work but use outside help for some projects which they have no problem with. They are busy at peak times so plan ahead. Jonathan the travel lift operator is excellent and moonlights for bottom jobs, waxing. etc. Not cheap but convenient. I launched my boat at Playboy and they are tough on liability insurance so be prepared with your policy. Once they launch you, you have to leave as no docking space was available which may have changed.

Re: Good yards in Miami

I really like Playboy in Dania. Clean yard and fair prices.

I had a horrible experience with a First Performance Marine in Ft Lauderdale. They quote you a great fixed price for a bottom job, then do a lousy job. They only pressure wash, no sanding before painting. Plus they didn’t even remove the clam shells to paint inside the thru Hull. The crowning blow was when one of our Spurs fell off coming back from the Bahamas after they re-installed them. Their reply to me was it’s not our problem. Never again!
