Cruisers often make the bar a bigger deal than it is. Easy entrance. Draft of less than 6ft no problem. I used to run a couple of monos back and forth to Belize which drew just under 6 and never even touched (soft bottom if you do) regardless of tide state.

Follow the route exactly in Rauschers guide ... it is spot on. Those that run aground w less draft are on the wrong course.

Re: Good cheap yard in Cuba, Carribean, Central America ?

Not many 50' boats on the lake anymore. Most draw more than you would want to get past Livingston.

We easily crossed the bar with our 6 foot draft. Another boat traveling with us crossed with a 7 foot draft. Over 6 feet should probably be done at high tide. Chuck

And you can enlist local fishing boats to help heel you over while crossing. Ive seen a few 7+ drafts come across that way.

A Formosa 67 with 7.5 foot draft came in recently on a 1.7 foot tide so there should be a furrow there to follow, It was slow and they had 280Hp to help

I'm with Atoll on this and recommend to fly to Trinidad and find the boat you want right there. Buy it, fix it there and enjoy
