Glue for hatch seals

We have to install new hatch seal rubber in aluminium Goiot hatches
Will any solvent based contact cement/glue do the job?
Goiot sell “special” glue but it is illegal to carry in airline baggage
Any suggestions on what to use that we can buy in Panama?

Try International Boat Spares, or, RigRite, they both sell Goiot parts and ship worldwide. I have purchased parts from both.

True, thanks
Their glue is goon but is solvent based
Problem is if it is treated as hazardous things get expensive fast
Also receiving in Panama can be a nightmare

+1 on the 3M super black weatherstrip adhesive which I prefer it over Permatex variant. Both will work in a pinch, but if you get a choice, go 3M for this usage.

Me too. Replaced hatch gaskets many years ago and still holding. Just hardware store contact cement. Dap brand.

In Panama? Try and find swimming pool adhesive.

Good luck with it, mate. It's always a challenge to find *stuff* in a foreign language and place. Another possibility would be to use caulking compound, whatever kind you already have on the boat. It won't hurt the gasket.

Re: Glue for hatch seals

Do you have a local leathersmith? If so, see if he has Barge brand contact cement in the yellow container - not the new replacement non-aromatic type in the green container. You want the old stuff in the yellow container with the strong distinctive smell of the old style Barge contact. It is still sold to leatherworkers everywhere. It will do the job, and repair your sandals too. Slather on, let the surface nearly cure (halfhour to an hour), then clamp surfaces together overnight.

I agree too on the automotive trim and rubber adhesive. It’s made to tolerate water and salt spray as well as UV.
