glassed in bilge hose?

Hi. I am the recent owner of a new to me 30 foot 1983 seafarer which underwent a nice 50 mile maiden voyage to a new home . Lots of projects. Anyways, the bilge hose is clogged. Tried a couple things to unclog the hose but no dice. went to just pull it and replace it, but it is glassed into the sole. I think I will have to cut the sole in order to remove the glassed in part. Anyone have any tricks for unclogging a bilge pump or any idea why a bilge hose would be glassed in? Thanks.

Re: glassed in bilge hose?

The bilge hose is glassed in because they laid it in place before installing the liner. My CS27 was the same. The good news in my case is that they used the corrugated hose and it had lost some of its strength over the years. My solution was to get a pair of lock pliers on the end after cutting it and unravelling the hose to remove it. 5' of hose became about 40' when removed.
Good luck - this may work for you.

Re: glassed in bilge hose?

What diameter is the hose?
Disconnect both ends and try an air hose or high(ish) pressure water from either (or both) ends.
Try rodding it flexible steel cable or old rigging wire or a smaller size hose.
Also try small hose shoved in as far as the blockage and send connect tap pressure water to the small hose .

Re: glassed in bilge hose?

A water hose, applied from the back end to flush it down into the bilge. Or an electrician's "fish tape" which is often under $10 and very handy on a boat, used like a plumber's router. Or for the matter, look for a small plumber's router. Don't get too aggressive because if you chew through that hose--yeah, oops.

If the clog is something like old paper that has hardened up into a plug, it is possible that it will get soggy enough to dislodge if you let it soak again for a while.

Meantime, you want to order a strum box to put over the end in the bilge, to keep crud out of the hose after you clean it out or replace it.
