Gibraltar-need a sailcover, some help?

Hi all,
Rocket Science's sailcover didn't survive the awful winter, unfortunately. I'm trying, with no success, to find someone to build me one. So far, I've tried Lazy Jacks and Amiri. One said they're too busy, and one just won't return my emails.

Can anybody recommend a canvas shop that serves that area?

Thanks, TJ

Dont know anyone in the area but i did have a nice discussion with a lady who ran the marina on the Spanish side (cant remember the name). Why don't you call them or just head over there and see if they can recommend someone for you?

Yup, did that. Their recommendation can't be bothered to reply... Hence the post.

TJ D,

Sorry to hear the troubles, guys. Talk to anyone who sews upholstery. They're used to using wide, and heavy fabrics, and measuring twice and cutting once. Emphasize how you want the fit (looseish, for air circulation), and if possible, let them see the old one. This is a great opportunity for them to expand their business. They might even be willing to try using PTFE (Tenara, etc) thread for you. You may have to get the material shipped in, or they can order it for you. Do not expect fast.

Ann

I made my own from a sail rite kit. Super easy. Maybe get the premade kit and find a seamstress? Or have them make and ship to you?

Thanks, Ann. We've got a little time, so fast isn't critical.

Hi TJ-D,
I had some work done well two years ago by Sam. Sam is a Spaniard whose workshop is in Spain. He was recommended by Gib Craftsmen and he did well for me. His contact is: sam@amiri.es
good can-do attitude but a busy man.

good luck

Peter

I also know Sam, but he isn't answering us, unfortunately. It's surprising because we had been talking to him about building a set of carbon laminate sails for us. I would expect he'd be more interested in our business. Oh well.

Fortunately, Gilana's recommendation did answer straight away, so we are making progress!

Thanks, TJ
