Galled Norsman Fitting

In the process or rerigging, managed to gall a Norseman eye on disassembly,(Strange?) through much muscle I was able to reassemble and am thinking recut the threads, it now goes back together and disassembles although not a easy as all the other fittings, is this fitting still suitable for reuse??

I don't know the answer and doubt even an expert could advise without first-hand inspection.... so any opinion you get here is worth what you paid for it.

My gut says -- If you have to ask here then you don't trust it. So what is the worst case scenario if it fails? Are you willing to take that chance to avoid replacing a sub-$100 fitting?

Unfortunately it's not. I think it was galled last time it was assembled and you found out when you disassembled it. Use Lanocote for assembling the new one. You also need another new cone.

cheers,
Nick.

Re: Galled Norsman Fitting

Dont use a rigging fitting such as this when its been abused. Once the threads have been stretched, they will find it all too easy to do it again, just when you dont need failure like in a storm.

They can be so easy or so hard to screw together, its a fine line between right or wrong and by the time it tightens up so much you realise its wrong, the threads have already been crossed and its scrap.

I know cos ive done it, to my shame.

+1 to everything which has been said. How much does your rig cost? Your life? How much does a new NOrseman terminal cost? IF you have even the slightest doubt, toss it and buy a new one.
