Fuel Tank Fairy!

I need a fuel tank fairy with strong magic.

We've got 4 polyethelene diesel tanks and some slow seeping into the bilge. It's so slow I can't even tell exactly where it's coming from.
We also need a bit of a redesign of the whole system so that it is simple and reliable.

Who does this kind of work?

I rang a big tank manufacturer who does aluminium and stainless tanks, and all they did was tell me my tanks are going to disolve as soon as diesel starts having ethanol added, so I'd better have them come and put aluminum ones in.

Any advice or tips or thoughts, or voodoo, greatly appreciated.

Vic

PS. ethanol doesn't touch polyethalene so companies that use that kind of tactic to make sales immediately lack credibility in my book.

Re: Fuel Tank Fairy!

Vagabond -- you are very lucky to be in the cheaspeake --

i can only tell you what worked for us == we needed a new fuel tank - acutally an additional one and we were in Deltaville -- we called around to a few boat yards and in Deltaville talked to a couple there and both promised to come out and take a look - that one was Deltaville Boat Yard --
they brought us to their dock free of charge and spent a few days looking and measuring multiple times and then taking to tank mfgers and finally they decided they could do it - all the time we were free on their dock - they listened to me and even took my suggestions into the design when i noted the design and suggested a design change that would add gallons -
in the end they designed a stainless steel tank and had it built for us at a price less than they orginally quoted - and an excellent job
we can not recommend them highly enough -
call matt at deltaville boat yard and said svsoulmates told you to call about a fuel tank and find out what they did for us
NO - i get nothing out of this -- they just did a bang up job for us and we would not be where we are today except for them

just what worked for us
chuck patty and svsoulmates
still in trinidad

Re: Fuel Tank Fairy!

Thanks Chuck and Patty,
I'll give them a call. We're right at the top end of the bay but we will have a new rig needing a shakedown trip so it may coincide somehow.

Re: Fuel Tank Fairy!

Ethyl alcohol is chemically compatible with high density polyethylene. Don't believe whoever it is that is telling you it is not.
