Free Frames for 60 Foot Catamaran

If you want to build a 50 to 60 foot catamaran you can have my framework, for free.

These frames, all CNC cut, have been used to build my two hulls.

The shape has been designed and optimised by a professor using Maxsurf and Rhino and and peer reviewed by a well known naval architect.

The frames all notch together onto longitudinal bearers so everything is very accurately controlled. Over these frames you bend and glue a plywood shell which is then laminated with lateral, longitudinal and double bias uniaxial glass and epoxy.

Re: Free Frames for 60 Foot Catamaran

Country calling code: Australia.
As I would be concerned with shipping to west coast USA, what is the dimension of largest frame? What is total weight of all frames?

Are the moulds symmetrical to make both port and stbd? The flare as shown makes me wonder.

Also, I think I would cold mould. Any comments on this?

This looks to be one heck of a deal.

Left or right hull by 180-ing the frame. Typical method. Looks like a good deal.

Re: Free Frames for 60 Foot Catamaran

Hi Richard
Although the frames are not symmetrical (because they include the flared stub of the bridge deck) they can be used to make left and right hulls by flipping them around.

The frames are in my boatbuilding shed in Jamberoo which is about two hours south of Sydney. The weight is probably over a ton, I don't think the freight cost to USA is worth it.

To make these frames I used about 24 sheets of 18 mm MDF (aka Craftwood), about $1000, the CNC cutting cost another $1200. I would like to help with the CNC files but I am just absolutely flat out building and working so don't have time to organize them.

Cold moulding is probably faster than my techniques, but also a bit heavier. Plus there is a lot more fairing to get a finish as smooth as sheets of ply
Best regards
Michael
