Finishing Deck Repairs

I'm nearing the end of my (possibly obsessive) quest to rid the deck on my boat from holes. Some will have to be redrilled to have hardware replaced, but some of the hardware isn't going back on, and some of the repairs were due to delaminated core, etc..

All the repairs / patching was done with West Systems epoxy. So, once I finally have it will in and fared nice and smooth, is there any value to trying to apply gelcoat? or should I just prime and paint? some mismatching of colors isn't going to bother me at this point, and I am considering applying kiwigrip to restore the anti skid (and assuming that the epoxy should be painted first?)

Re: finishing deck repairs

Generally speaking it's not wise to apply geloat over epoxy. Amine blush can cause severe problems with gelcoat curing properly, and it can be a gamble. If you really want to gelcoat something you have epoxied, I would recommend a tie coat. Usually I use 545 for tie coating, gelcoat bonds well to it. Probably easier to prime and paint.

Re: finishing deck repairs

A two part polyester paint is so much easier to work with than gel coat and is almost as durable, I'd paint it. AwlGrip 545 is a very good primer.
