More to the point, Brass as you buy from Home Depot is most often Yellow Brass. It is loaded with zinc which will quickly disappear in sea
water. Bronze for
marine use has way less zinc and more copper. It is frequently called red brass. You can easily see the reddish cast in the cut threads. I understand that standards have been relaxed in
Europe & some of these fittings may not be as good or long-lived.
I have both plastic & bronze. Below
water is all bronze.
