Question Fiberglass headliner replacement

I am in the middle of my sc31 total refit project and i am considerimg replacing the original fiberglass/gelcoat headliner as it has spider/stress cracks, doesnt seem to be strongly attached to the deck (boat cealing) and i dont like it because i cant see the deck (interior side)... Plus all deck hardware is attached to it and the deck so if i had a leak the water will be hard to detect and it will go everywhere...

Anyways i was wondering if anyone has faced or is facing the replacement of the interior headliner.

Thanks!

stress cracks can be sanded ,regelcoated then sanded and polished out

deck fittings that are leaking just need lifting and rebedding with butyl tape.

removing a moulded grp headliner that is part of the structure is not something i would undertake lightly as you will need to laminate stringers to the underside of the coach roof and cabin sides to replace with another headliner

Re: Fiberglass headliner replacement

As long as you have a good plan and follow thru, should be no problem. Be aware I have met too many people getting discouraged after taking the headliners of their boat. Most end up selling the boat and moving on. Also a good advice for the wife not to see that...it can leave emotional scars[emoji41]

some photos would be helpful if you want advice.
there is a big difference between a structural moulded in liner as you find on many boats to laminated liners that have been put in just for a cosmetic finish
