Ferro to wood

If built in wood a Hartley boat would be lighter than normal. This will allow extra ballast or tankage to get down to the dwl. Is there a rule of thumb to figuring this out instead of lengthy calculations? Maybe Hartley has done this math since they advertise their plans as suitable for wood if desired. A stouter hull is another possibility. Does anyone have any info on ferro to wood conversion?

Correct. The Tahitian for example is a large volume hull designed for the weight in FC. The plan can be built in either Wood or Steel. But it is not just a simple case of adding more Ballast weight. Contact Hartely in NZ and they will send you plans for the same design you intend to build, drawn up for Wood.

Yes correct. I am no Navel Architect or Architect full stop. (Not even sure if I spelt it correctly;-) But as I understand it, there is more to it than just adding more weight in the keel. The entire CG shifts, because the deck and hull sides are no longer the same weight above waterline. So there are some differences, but i don't know what. But I do know that there are plans for the same hull in both Steel and in timber.
