Experience with ICP Solar vents?

Hi all;

I am looking for feedback on ICP Solar Vents.

They seem to be a viable alternative to the Nicro Day/Night, and are priced online at ~$100 in stainless. Once nice feaure is that they have an integrated LEd light. I ahve never seen one in the flesh, though.

I have no experience with these but had a look at the site.

To my untrained eye they seem all right, however they are a lot larger than others I've seen.

Reversible fan is a good thing.

I would also be very interested in learning more about them.

Whenever I see mushroom vents fitted to boats (passive or powered) I always wonder what would happen if the boat turned turtle. From the website:

"Weather-resistant, ventilation shaft can be closed from the inside to avoid water ingress in rough seas or during heavy rainfall"

Does "rough seas" include upside down? Somehow I doubt it, but I'd be happy to be proved wrong. Also, the use of the term, "weather-resistant" worries me. Shouldn't it be, "weather-proof"?

What are other's thoughts on this?

About the solar vents, we had already two models (a nicro first, then an icp), they both unfortunately did not last very long, from 1 year to 1,5 year, before being out of order.

I do not know if we were very unlucky, anyway we tried to have the ICP being repaired, we found out that the parts were embedded in resin and could not be accessed.

However, we still are going to install a new one, as this the most effective way to remove humidity and odors (it is installed in the toilets) in the whole boat, very silent and works 24 hours a day.

About the "upside down" question, the closing system seems to be as effective and reliable that the one on Lewmar vents, meaning that there will always be a weak point of course.

We consider it as a very low risk, as we do not plan to sail everyday in the Cap Horn area in winter time....
