Engine driven hot water on Raw Water cooled Yanmar

I just learned that the hot water heater on my boat has connectors to generate hot water from the engine while underway. To this point we have only used the 110v option. The engine is a Yanmar 3qm30 raw water cooled. Distance from engine to heater is about 5'. Is this advisable and if so where would one break into the cooling system? My best guess would be connect heater inlet to block output and heater output back to engine exhaust manifold input. But this would expand a hose that normally runs about 18" to a run of at least 10'. Would this add stress to water pump or impeller? Would it affect engine operating temp at all? The engine runs about 165 degrees normally which I would think would give us some at least warm water for showers when on boat a week at a time.
