Back in the mid 1990's we lived down in North Otago and visited Christchurch often, frequently calling in to Boat NZ. I still have a 1995 catalogue of theirs from back then which I have kept because it is so well illustrated.

When I saw Seafox mention Edson I recalled that spares were listed in that old catalogue and followed it up. Back in 1995 the same part was $35.85 so maybe Seafox could tell them he was ordering from the 1995 catalogue

Hey foxy, why dont you get a pair machined up in stainless, once ...and be done with it. I bet it would still work out way cheaper than ed$on !!

I have one of the very first catalogues ever printed by them. It's facinating to look through it as see prices way back then. It's all in pounds and pence etc. I tell ya what though, if we think todays prices for gear are a rip, you should see what they had to pay waay back then.

That piece of crap broke on my steering too. I didn't even touch it . We put the boat on the hard an I only moved a rudder little bit side to side and all of a sudden it went slack . Opened the steering quadrant compartment and couldn't believe it . Those crappy parts simply fall apart and the cable pins fell of the quadrant ,no steering . I was kind relived because day before we were sailing across Tampa Bay in those narrow channels.

I have bought five of them from the Edson rep here for $45 each. (one as a spare). Going to replace them all as well as the steering cable in the off season. In the meantime I am going to use a modified Hansen plumbing part for one of the quadrant bulkhead conduit ends. At least I can keep my eye on it there.

Thought about that. Will do that when the new genuine parts crap out.

They say that they are designed for the aircraft industry and are supposed to be good for 600,000 cycles:

"comes from the aircraft industry and has been successfully tested to 600,000 cycles without failure."

Did you replace them with the same parts or make your own?

Huh! are you referring to the $160. from the chandlery part??

maybe they take very same part and sell it to the marine trade, AFTER it has done the 600,000 cycles.

Edson quoted me the wrong sized part At $145plus gst each initially. It was the next size up! After I read the post from Midlandone I went to the NZboat site and found the part for $53.52. I emailed the Edson rep back and was quoted $45each for the correct size. Still a bloody rip off but I held my breath and ordered five of them.

Meantime I found 3 out of 4 of them have broken in my boat!
