Drilling Corian

I am installing a water filter and need to drill a 1/2 inch hole. They don't make hole saws this small. Can you use regular drill bits without cracking the corian. Any suggestions/ I'm screwed if I mess up the countertop. Thanks

Start with a small but, 1/8", work your way up by 1/16ths or 1/8ths. Watch the tool temperature or use water as a coolant.

Use one of these. It cuts the outside before plunging into the material.

You can get a multi spur bit which is kinda like a hole saw with multiple teeth. They are usually available in sizes beginning at 1/2" and have 1/2" shanks.

There is also a step drill which might work for the top and some blow out on the bottom would not be an issue. It's always better to support the bottom of any drilled hole to prevent chip out.

You can even use a plunge router!
