I think this is an amazing comment to hear from a guy involved in a tiny segment of the dive game. My shop (yep, I'm back at work ) deals with hundreds of divers a week. No typo: HUNDREDS A Week. Not hundreds a year if ya get my drift.

Where do you "experts" get off calling others ignorant? Hey, and 64, please say hi from me to Jeff Bozanic. He wrote the book on cave diving. Like in 1980 something, drinking beer with me in South Miami.

Damn man. What are you smoking?

FYI my instructor # is in the low 5 digits. Yours?

Navy SEALS come here to the Outer Banks to goof off. Pardon me if I'm not all that impressed with yer vast experience. Geez.

Well sweetheart its your buddies ego that is showing not mine with his attempt
in name dropping and bragging about his part in a big cattle boat operation.
But I will not get in the mud and wallow with you hogs.
Point was and is that a boot is a useless appendage and will cause harm to your equipment

I love cave diving, but you are correct. There as many different "right " ways of doing the same thing as there are cave divers. The same goes for tech as well. Oh, and don't even mention rebreathers as that gets the non-rebreather crowd involved as well.

BTW, boots are also an easy extra 5$ or more for the dive shop!

Attempt? I laid THE guru's name out there loud and clear.
The point was that you didn't invent cave diving nor do your practices define the sport.

Few would argue that cave divers don't want anything snaggleable.
Other divers have different needs.Tank boots on round bottom tanks are for owner convenience and protection, and a boot on any tank stops it from rolling around; a real danger.

But I will not get in the mud and wallow with you hogs.

Nah. You'll just use pejorative terms like ignorant, sweetheart (in this case), wallow, mud, hogs, and cattle boat.

Oink. Oink.

Point was and is that a boot is a useless appendage and will cause harm to your equipment in your opinion.
Hey man, you're a combat helo jockey and cave diver. A real ballsy guy. We get it. I salute you as a risk-taker and likely heroic patriot. Thanks for your service. But when it comes to writing BLACK LETTER LAW about anything, you need more than yer opinion (in my opinion).

Funny. Never thought there'd be a need for a DIR philosophy on tank boots

DIR has a policy or protocol for everything except the color of your underwear. The type of material yes but you can choose your own color.

To dive on a DIR team I had to change my backup reg long hose (yellow hose was not allowed, why I don't recall) ,the brand of my backup lights (that I had used for years without a problem and were brighter and longer burn time than the approved replacement), and switch all my stage tank clips from bronze to stainless (even though the bronze ones worked better and the stainless occasionally jammed).

On the other hand, they never lost a diver on their expeditions where the "other guys" had more than one death.

Re: Dive Tank Boot

Though there's nothing wrong with drinking the koolaid, the "other guys" (before GI!) were called pioneers.

OP, sorry for the thread drift. It is such an innocuous subject to have stirred a hornet's nest.

Speaking of pioneers, IMO I always thought that Jacques and Falco were a little too close, if ya get my drift.

It wasn't really about tank boots "sweetheart," as I know you know.
