Disel tank clean on Moody 44 1995

Just befor I open the secret hatch found on the 80 gallon disel tank, I will be happy to get any info that will help me in this task.
The tank was never cleaned befor, it is a SS tank although I do see marks of rust on the upper parts of the wals.
Disel seems to be clean, no evidence for water and never had issues with blocked filter etc.
Please your good advice!!!
THX

Don't worry, you will just find some sludge at the bottom and up the sides. It will be very easy to clean with an industrial cleaning agent and hot water, the sludge doesn't stick.
Enjoy...

Re: Disel tank clean on Moody 44 1995

That's the folks you see standing beside their broken down car on the freeway

I used a bio-degradable de-greaser intended for cleaning bars. I used it in app 1:10 with hot water, worked like a dream.

I filled app. 30 l. of hot water/degreaser into the tank, and used a pump with a hose to circulate and flush down from the man hole. After some minutes I pumped most of it to a barrel.

I then emptied the tank completely with a wet vacuum cleaner and had it dried out over some days.

My tanks are from 1987, and there was a remarkable amount of sludge in those. Never had any problems though, but I am sure that would have had eventually.

Re: Disel tank clean on Moody 44 1995

thanks,
here in Israel, we don't have those little people on the freeway!
any way, i will look for this agent (solvent) FOR CLEANING BARLS
the problem is that the tank is 85 cm deep so i'm not sure my wife will be able to dive that deep!
your tank looks quiet bright - on mine there are marks of rust on the walls though it looks like SS....
THANKS

As one who has experienced a plugged fuel line in a seaway I believe that cleaning your tank should be a regular maintenance item. It is no fun to find yourself suddenly without an engine.

Re: Disel tank clean on Moody 44 1995

Where is your fuel outlet connection.
If you are drawing fuel from the bottom of your tanks it is likely you have very little crud built up in your tanks. Tanks with fuel draws that leave an gap from the tube to the bottom of the tank allow stuff to build up over time and cause the issues you always hear about. With true bottom draws offs you are always getting the crud out to your filter systems. Anyway IMO and experience.
