Different Shades of White

What's the thought process about deciding what shade of white paint to choose?

Is one shade of white "too bright" and a hassle to keep clean?
Is one shade give a glare on a sunny day?

This might be a silly questions, I just don't want to be the guy that buys the "paint that everyone knows is terrible." haha

It looks like there are 2 basic tints for white , yellow or blue. I think the paradigm is yellow tints go with maybe a green accent and blue tints go together with blue accents. For example, you don't see many IP's with their pronounced yellow tint with blue stripes.

There are many many whites. Hard to say for you, but I would avoid too bright a white for glare reasons maybe.

You are right of course but I think you will find that at the paint store, when you choose your shade of white they will start with the basic white base and start adding tint. The first tint will either be a blue or a yellow. This kind of sets the direction for the other tints to follow.
I painted our decks with a very bright white in the blue tint and the glare is terrible. I would be adding a flattening agent next time.

The only glare problem will come from the areas that are easily visible from the cockpit.
Rather than worrying about what shade of white, just pick the color you like and have the painter add a flattening agent to the decks and whatever other area that might throw glare in your face.

The boat I had painted was Oyster White if I remember right. Not real bright white but not real "off white" like "Hatteras off white" either. The oyster was just right for me.

Go to a big marina where they paint a lot. Find a white boat they painted that you like and ask them what color it is.

I do not think your questions are silly. I think they are 100% valid.

If you have some white areas already, you may opt to go for a similar shade to match.

You are correct to say some shades are give more glare and others are more friendly to the eye. I do not like off-white decks as they make me wear shades all day. On our boat the deck is cream white (but not as much cream as on Island Packets) and I do like this white better.

And then there are a dazzzillion of factors and also your aesthetic preferences that will affect your choice.

There ARE many shades of white, indeed.

How do you explain that the square that is moved is not the same as the dark square between the center and the one the lady puts it on. That shows me that there are more colors of squares than just two.

Square A and B are the same shade/color. Your brain just doesn't see it that way. Your brain adjusts to things. that is why when people first get trifocal/transition glasses, a sheet of paper does not look like a rectangle, within a day or so it will.
