Diesel engine replacement

Dear cruisers,

Looking for advice on where to find pricing for diesel engines in the 50 hp range. We are looking to purchase, but believe that the current engine needs replacing. I have looked on line but can't seem to find pricing and have never had to make this kind of purchase before.

Thanks,

Re: Diesel engine replacement

Buy the best you can get and don't be shy to use your engine as often as is practical.

Thanks,
Decide on the motor you want and then get quotes from your local dealers. Sometimes they'll have one sitting around that hasn't sold or one that someone ordered and backed out. I got 4 quotes on my Yanmar. But they were $o clo$e that I took the one from a the guy I do most of my business with.

Re: Diesel engine replacement

$12K to $14K depending on the accessories (alt, tranny, turbo).

Re: Diesel engine replacement

We have friends here in Panama that just bought a new 53hp Yanmar with transmission for $10,000 USD out the door. He did all the installation work himself and spent ~1,000 more on new exhaust hose and other installation parts.

RogueSailors,

You may want to look at a Beta Marine 50. Very easy to maintain Kubota engine.

50 Beta Marine US Ltd. Distributors for Kubota based marine diesel engines and generators for sailboats, yachts and trawler boats.

Re: Diesel engine replacement

We went with the Beta 50 2 years ago over the Yanmar after much research, including advice on this forum! Love all the advice from Beta U.S. in North Carolina, easy to talk to anytime on the phone. Plus you wll save much money when buying spares and parts
