Did You Work on the Boat ?

I worked all weekend on the boat. On the teak decks to be exact. I still have about 5/8 " of the deck left after being sanded on for years but the groove between the teak is pretty much gone. I have taken a dermel saw set it for a quarter inch depth and cut a groove on each side of the polysulfide. Than I took a bent sharpened screwdriver and pulled out the poly/wood to get a new groove. I than taped it off and put in new polysulfide. It took about sixteen hours but I got a strip done 20 inches wide and 30 feet long. Its nice to be back at work.

Re: Did You Work on the Boat ?

Today, I finished installing the windlass. At last! Sailed 7 years without one...

This weekend, I made some progress on the electrical system, too.

Tomorrow is legal holiday here (commemoration of VE-Day 1945), so I will have time to make some more progress.

Finished working on the fuel system, then when I fired up the gen set, the salt water pump for cooling the exhaust died, and then I had to come back to work for money. Next job replace or repair said salt water pump, so I can run the gen set long enough to start trouble shooting the wiring.

Re: Did You Work on the Boat ?

This weekend was the first weekend in 4 months we haven't worked on the boat. Instead we went out and sailed.

And it felt good.

Last 4 months:

Gutted electrical system, including wire, lights, fixtures, batteries, everything.
New batteries, new wires, new switches, new panel, new led lights, new depthsound/transducer/ new VHF, new stereo, and some other little odds and ends.

Needless the say, the music while sailing never sounded so sweet.

Re: Did You Work on the Boat ?

We had a short day heading up the ICW so I decided to fix the atachment points of the Head to the floor. The screws have been pulling out and it was just time.

I used 4 "Toggler" fasteners which are a truly remarkable device and a great way to blind fasten somthing. Now the "Head" is as steady as a throne! Now.... if there was only enough room for a newspaper!

Installed the new cutlass bearing and put the prop shaft back in.

Removed some of the old varnish from one of the rails. Found my sanding paper supply insufficient. To be continued.

Replaced the raw water impeller (unplanned), removed the Edson engine controls to fix the stiffness in the levers (unplanned - made the list when the bolt holding the shift lever sheared off), traced and fixed an electrical anomaly from installing a Balmar alternator (unplanned), installed the dinghy davits (planned).

Re: Did You Work on the Boat ?

I have been staying home.

One of the reasons I sold was it was too much to keep after and not enough time to sail. One weekend or so a month just didn't get it.

Plus, sailing out, around and back is booorrrriinngg.

When I can actually "go somewhere" for a while I will return.

Spent a couple of hours finding suppliers on line and after convincing myself I had the best deal I could find proceeded to spend about 300 bucks for supplies for this weekend! Hopefully if the weather cooperates I will be reinstalling hatches. Any one know a good supplier for the rubber gaskets? I need a bunch of it, about 85 ft.

Re: Did You Work on the Boat ?

Nope. I'm stuck right now. I need to pull the winter cover off so I can lift the engine and drop it in place, but its pouring rain. I have the engine uncrated in the cockpit, the access hatch open and the lazarette hatch off, so water has lots of things to get into. Supposed to be good tomorrow.
