Did You Work on the Boat ?

I'm getting mentally prepared for spring cleaning (not an overhaul like Ex-Calif!) I just need a weekend alone with nothing else to do but remove everything room by room and clean from top to bottom. It will be a big job going through out every drawer and cleaning and oiling all the teak. I just keep telling myself it's aerobic exercise & the teak oil is good for my skin.

The boat Gods expect me to pay for 5 years of fun - LOL

It's amazing how much stuff comes out of even a 26 foot boat when you start emptying lockers. I end up with a truckload of stuff piled by the boat.

The boat gods can be a real pain! I guess I'm paying for 4 yrs of fun. You must have had more fun since you are doing all of that work!! I don't have a ton of stuff and all I will do is clear shelf by shelf to clean and discard stuff gathered but not needed. It's time to go through pantry and get rid of things I said I would use-but it never did (didn't really like to make cake in coffee mug but sounded like fun at the time). They say cleaning can be cathartic (clean boat-clean soul or something like that

I'm on a "pay as you go" plan. Sail some, work a lot and then sail some more. And then work a lot.........

Long way from LA to my Drive Way. Has not been easy. Shipping company truck broke down in Denver. Brought it on the rest of the way myself to Nebraska. Started after a new boat in October. In March I found her and still working on her. Only thing left before the splash is bottom paint.

Yesterday I resealed a hatch, did some more varnishing and got some more steel for the rudder project.

Did the three hour bus ride back and forth today to get a big bag of bolts, drills and a tap. While I have the generator a generous neighbouring yachtie has lent me I need to do some serious work over the next few days.

Nearing completion of the Aft Cabin refurb - a project complicated somewhat because some idjut decided to move one of the bunk sides 1/2". As you can clearly see, really makes all the difference .



None of that actually needed doing now - especially as intended use for the next few years will be as walk in (actually a clamber in!) locker rather than as a sleeping area. But it was annoying me .

I also fixed my shoe .

Went to the boat to go sailing,forgat it is on the HARD,Sanded the botom ,at least 2/3 of it.Why did I,buy a full keel Boat.

Monday I cut into my foredeck looking for some dryrot. The foredeck was a bit soft and I thought I knew exactly where it started and ended so I could quickly repair it. Yesterday I continued cutting after cutting some more on Tuesday. Turns out to be a very major repair, total foredeck including shelf, deck beams, ply deck and glass over. Shelf and beam rot extends from stem to shroud chainplates. Might even be further but I'll keep cutting until I find the end of it. Freshwater is not your friend and neither are termites.

You can imagine how discouraged I am just now.

Will be doing more surgery today. I hate even taking photos of it at this point.

Ran a cable from a CWTouchKeyer on the nav table to the Icom M802 mounted in a hard-to-reach, out-of-the-way place. Then made a nice CW contact with Myrton N1GKE in Rhode Island.

Actually, Admiralty Inlet is only one block away, but I digress...

Today.. hum... Well sanded and put another coat of varnish on the cap rails, Made the removable salon table non-removable, Added eye screws / line to keep a stack of paperback books from falling on port tack, installed thingy's to attach lea cloth too, (need to get a few more still), patched some minor misc. cracks in the deck, adjusted / fixed one solar mount.

Tomorrow, more sanding, varnish, pump out and what ever else pops up.

Finished welding up the rudder yesterday. Also welded on 2 annodes. Today im looking for a paint brush and the half can of bottom paint and a couple of rain free hours...........if I can tear myself away from my bed cos im dog tired.
