Deck Prisms or Not?

I like the idea of light with out battery drain but I dont want my project to look like a "lumpy potato" when I'm done, so I need opinions. If you could, would you put in a few well placed deck prysms?

Re: Deck Prysms or not?

I have a couple. The amount of light is limited and the are another deck penetration that has to be maintained. I could live without mine.

They bring light into areas that don't have any other means to acquire natural light. Way better than ports in the side of the hull IMO. Especially useful in flush deck boats.

Re: Deck Prysms or not?

They can be really hard to keep sealed. That said, they can also be really nice. I once had a pair in a v-berth that were massive solid crystal grapefruit juicers installed upside down. They refracted rainbow colored sunbeams all over the inside of the forepeak, very nice. Had to be resealed yearly, nothing sticks to crystal.

Re: Deck Prysms or not?

Agree, old ones are hard to seal. I also found that they got scratched and etched as they aged , never thought much of them.
