covers for teak decks

Not sure if I'm in the right section for this one but......
I have a 42ft motor cruiser with a large teak foredeck - approx 12' long . Is it better to leave it open to the elements where it will suffer the usual sun wind and rain punishment or put a cover over it allowing ventilation but no direct sun or rain?
I'm concerned about the general weather punishment but don't want to risk drying it out.
Thanks

Re: covers for teak decks

covers are good but the deck needs sea water to remain good...salt it before season ends and let rain vs cover...

I think a cover would be better. As Zee says, salt water is good for it if exposed to the elements. But my guess is non exposure is even better. Might depend on where you are. Constant hot sun like Florida seems to shrink up the wood severely. I've got teak boards left over from projects in the mid 80's! They are still perfect stored under cover.
