Confused on bottom painting...

I decided to remove an old thru hull on my catalina, it had the original gate valves. Anyhow, I was able to get the old one out with no problem and dont need it anymore so I am going to patch it and then repaint it. After the epoxy is cured, do I need to put primer on the fiberglass before painting on the bottom paint or can I just paint the bottom paint on and forget it?

Rough up the new epoxy job and bottom paint it is the way I would do it.

It never hurts to apply/repair the barrier coat. The patch, as you described, is epoxy so it is already resistant to water. The surrounding joint & hull material may not be so repair is in order if you have time.

rough it up good to take the surface shine off the epoxy. Primer optional. You are tapering the patch from both inside and out right?

Yes going to taper the patch, going to try and do it like the west systems epoxy site shows, thats the brand I ended up buying...I was just concerned if the bottom paint was going to stick to the fiberglass...there isnt any other damage to the surrounding hole or anything, in fact the thru hull was fairly tight and wasnt leaking, but it was just in a very uncomfortable spot underneath and toward the back of the galley cabinet, would be hard to get to in an emergency I felt.
