Re: Compression post on P30

My 1976, P-30 has no problems there, looks like my post support was replaced with a fiberglass block before I owned it. No cracks or head door alignment problems. Where are you located ? I have not found any P-30 groups and would like to talk with other P-30 owners.

Re: Compression post on P30

NorthCoastJoe- I am in Austin Texas.

I may opt to shave the door down or more likely leave it as is. I just can’t see how replacing or shimming my post will make my door close. It seems like the real fix would involve cutting out the bulkhead, which seems like more work that it’s worth to me.

Any if you removing the mast for winter see any change in the door once the load is off?

it's clear from your pictures that your compression post is failing.
I strongly suggest dropping the mast and either replacing the entire compression post or cutting off the rotted bottom section and joining a new piece to the bottom. Generous coating with epoxy will help prevent future decay.
Once you've restored the compression post to it's correct height your door will be correctly aligned. I think you find you need to add a lot more than 1/8" as was mentioned earlier.

There is also some information on P30 and P26 compression post work on the Pearson boats google group archive.
