Compass Oil

Hi:

While working on my auto pilot I managed to spill half the oil out of the autopilot compass. Does anyone know if there is a special oil that should be used for this? It felt like normal motor oil. Does it very by brand? Mine is an Alpha 3000.

Charlie,

When my compass hemorrhaged years ago I tried mineral oil but it was too thick. I ended up using mineral spirits and it has worked perfectly, but your compass may be different. Any chance of advice from the manufacturer?

Thanks Dan:

I guess I missed that thread. That was when my father was dying. I've brought the whole thing home so I can trouble shoot it but more likely send it off to be repaired. I saw one on Ebay not long ago that sold for $400. Should have bought it.
