Cockpit Sole Repair

The cockpit sole on my 1974 Bristol 27 is starting to creak a bit. I'm guessing there may be some dampness in the balsa core in there.

Would drilling a few holes (without going thru the topside) on the under side of the cockpit sole help to dry it out?
